This handcrafted matcha latte cup features a soft, rounded form that fits naturally in the hand—comfortable to sip from while gently retaining the warmth of your drink.

Made using a distinctive three-layer glazing technique, the base is crafted from iron-rich clay native to the Kusatsu region. A layer of white slip is applied over the base, allowing the iron to subtly emerge and form a softly crackled, cream-toned surface. A final transparent glaze adds a smooth, calming finish, creating a cup that is both tactile and quietly expressive.

This chawan is handcrafted in Kusatsu, Shiga Prefecture, a region whose pottery roots trace back to the late 7th century, when Otsu briefly served as Japan’s capital. Kusatsu ware is valued for its durability and character, carried through clay rich in iron and tradition alike. Each piece is formed using a distinctive three-layer glazing technique. Sturdy yet refined, Kusatsu ware blends timeless craftsmanship with everyday practicality.
